TPG Internet Chooses Fortinet Solutions to Protect DSL Customers

 • 12 March, 2008 17:29

Fortinet – the pioneer and leading provider of unified threat management (UTM) solutions – today announced that TPG Internet, one of Australia’s largest Internet service providers, has chosen to offer Fortinet UTM solutions to clients purchasing business broadband and Internet connection subscriptions.

TPG provides business customers with Private Networking and Internet services, including Ethernet, Symmetric High-Bitrate Digital Subscriber Loop (SHDSL), broadband access, email services, Website hosting, domain name hosting and VOIP solutions. In its 20 years of operation, TPG has grown to become one of Australia’s top five Internet Service Providers. TPG has recently announced a proposed merger with SP Telemedia, which will result in the combined group controlling one of the largest broadband Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer (DSLAM) networks in Australia.

Wayne Springer, sales manager at TPG commented, “Our previous security vendor used a very complicated licensing model, which meant that the equipment became expensive for us to maintain, support and upgrade. Fortinet’s FortiGate appliances have greatly simplified the way we deploy sophisticated security technologies for our clients and have streamlined our administration, while reducing our costs.”

The new Fortinet solution has helped TPG to deliver advanced new security technologies to their broadband Internet clients. TPG are now able to offer support for virtual domains (VDOMs), and comprehensive new reporting capabilities. The reporting features now allow TPG to offer their customers graphical reports covering the performance of the complete UTM security environment, including high level business report formats suitable for senior executives, as well as more detailed technical reports to help improve security and productivity.

TPG now offers Fortinet’s FortiGate-50B, FortiGate-60B and FortiGate-200A systems to all new customers, and offers migration plans to existing customers, to make it easy for them to move to FortiGate platforms. TPG offers the FortiGate appliances as a fully managed turn key security solution, so its customers do not need to have in-house security expertise.

“TPG is primarily a services business, so a UTM solution makes more sense because customers get a total solution. Our customer receive firewall, antivirus, anti-spam, Web content filtering and intrusion protection from day one, compared to firewall-only products that require the purchase of options, or be sourced from other providers” said Mr. Springer. “Other important considerations for us included tight-integration with reporting systems and technical support. Fortinet shone in both areas.”

Fortinet's FortiGate systems are ASIC-accelerated security appliances that integrate essential security applications such as antivirus, firewall, VPN, intrusion prevention, Web filtering, anti-spam, and traffic shaping. All FortiGate systems are kept up to date automatically by Fortinet's FortiGuard Network, which helps ensure protection against the most damaging, content-based threats from email and Web traffic such as viruses, worms, intrusions, other unwanted network traffic and more - around the clock and around the world. FortiAnalyzer systems are purpose built appliances that provide valuable intelligence and simplify and centralize the collection and analysis of log and event data from Fortinet's FortiGate security appliances, delivering highly relevant network reports, valuable intelligence on network usage and assistance with meeting regulatory compliance.

“More ISPs and MSSPs (Managed Security Service Providers) are beginning to see both the technical as well as business benefits of UTM products, particularly solutions from Fortinet: lower cost, simplified support and a sane licensing scheme. TPG’s decision to bundle Fortinet systems validates our strategy to build fully-featured security systems that are easily deployed and managed by the customer or even remotely by the ISP or MSSP,” said Charles Cote, Fortinet regional director for Australia and New Zealand.
