SonicWall beefs up channel team

Security vendor plans to aggressively target the enterprise market this year

Security and networking vendor, SonicWall, has beefed up its internal channel team with three new appointments.

The company has recruited former McAfee staffer, Rob Blanco, as its new enterprise channel manager. He will be responsible for helping SonicWall build up its enterprise partner and customer base.

SonicWall's systems engineer, Shane Lilley, has also been given a channel manager's role after four years with the company. He will be joined by Dean Redman, who has come across from Express Data and will also assume channel management responsibilities for A/NZ. The pair are tasked with developing and managing SonicWall's partner program and helping to enhance the vendor's partner education solutions.

Regional manager, Chris Barton, said the appointment of an enterprise sales manager was part of SonicWall's broader plans to step up into the enterprise market. While traditionally strong in the SMB market, the vendor has been actively seeking to move up the customer stack and acquired enterprise SSL VPN vendor, Aventail, in June last year for $US25 million.

"Over the last four years we have been moving into the enterprise market," he said. "We see significant opportunity for alternative providers in the enterprise space as customers look for better performance."

Having a stronger internal channel team will also help SonicWall to develop closer ties with partners - an important step in strengthening its customer relationships, Barton said.
