Aten Altusen KL1100The Altusen KL1100 is a dual-rail PS/2-USB KVM console designed for enterprise customers needing server management solutions. It features an integrated 17-inch or 19-inch high resolution LCD monitor, a full keyboard and a touchpad in a 1U dual-rail housing with internal power built-in. The KL1100 has an external combo console port, consisting of a PS/2 or USB keyboard, a mouse and a monitor, and is compatible with existing KVM switches or servers. This makes it a good option for server rooms that already have KVM switches installed, Aten said. The LCD monitor can slide independently of the keyboard and touchpad, allowing users to have a clear view of what's going on with the server rack door closed. The KL1100 features high video quality with resolution of up to 1280 x 1024 pixels at 75Hz, and DDC2B for both monitor sizes. DDC emulation automatically adjusts the video settings of each computer, providing optimal monitor output.

Brocade DCX BackboneBuilt on four generations of datacentre technology, Brocade claims the DCX Backbone will integrate seamlessly with its existing products, including McData solutions. The Brocade DCX is aimed at users who want to build datacentre fabrics and achieve consolidation and cost savings. It features up to 896 ports of 8Gbps fibre channel, and is bundled with Brocade Adaptive Networking services. This enables users to dynamically allocate shared resources as changes occur in the requirements of virtual servers and networked storage. The fabric can also automatically adjust bandwidth and other resources according to defined service levels, which helps ensure higher priority workloads receive the resources they need. The Brocade DCX supports fibre channel, fibre channel over Ethernet, datacentre Ethernet, gigabit Ethernet and iSCSI protocols.

Western Digital RE2-GPWestern Digital's RE2-GreenPower (GP) enterprise SATA hard drive is designed to help users increase datacentre storage capacity without exceeding, and even reducing, power consumption. The vendor's IntelliPower technology focuses on balancing spin speed, transfer rates and caching algorithms to save power while maintaining performance. According to WD, the hardware also consumes less current during startup by allowing more drives to spin up simultaneously, resulting in fast system readiness. GreenPower drives monitor workload and automatically switches to idle mode whenever possible to reduce unnecessary power consumption. IntelliSeek technology calculates optimum seek speeds to cut unnecessary power consumption, noise and vibration, while IntelliPark technology automatically "parks" recording heads when the drive is idle to reduce aerodynamic drag on the platters. The drive also features StableTrac technology, which secures the motor shaft at both ends to reduce system-induced vibration and stabilise platters. This offers better tracking during read and write operations, according to WD. The RE2-GP features RAID-specific time-limited error recovery to prevent drive fallout caused by extended hard drive error-recovery processes, and Rotary Acceleration Feed Forward (RAFF) to optimise operation and performance when drives are used in vibration-prone multi-drive systems, such as rack-mounted servers. WD claims the drive is highly reliable and boasts of 1.2 million hours mean time between failure.
