Digicor is throwing the spotlight on the direct attached storage (DAS) space this year to complement its server products portfolio.
Director of marketing and communications, Cathy Gu, said the distributor recently signed a deal with US vendor, Promise, to gain access to its range of direct attached storage (DAS), and serial ATA (SATA) external storage and disk array products.
"We sell Infortrend as well, but we are not an official distributor with them, so there was not as much support," she said. "We decided to take Promise on instead. With all of the products we carry we try to have two brands."
Promise's products were a great fit with Digicor's server technology focus and offered bundling opportunities, Gu said.
Digicor joins Westan in Promise's local distribution stable.
Westan has access to Promise's full-line HBA (RAID controllers) and some of external disk array subsystems.
"Westan has been handling the lower-end products - they have not done much with the higher-end products locally," Gu said. "We have evaluated Promise's products and there's lots of interest already."
Promise senior sales manager Asia-Pacific, Wilson Sung, said Digicor's position as a specialised server player made it a good choice.
"Digicor specialises in vertical markets, such as DVR, datacentre and video editing," Sung said. "On the other hand, Westan, our broad line distributor in Australia, focuses on pure distribution with a strong sales force.
"We need both Westan and Digicor to strengthen our Australian market presence. With this distribution strategy, we will be able to extend our brand awareness as well as serve our customers well."
