Anixter and Avocent strike a deal

Anixter will have access to Avocent's full range as well as demonstration equipment, training and technical support

Network cabling distributor, Anixter, has landed a new deal with Avocent to provide its entire product portfolio.

Avocent produces network infrastructure solutions such as serial, consol, switching, power and datacentre management products. Anixter regional manager, Daniel Sultana, said the deal offered its customers a wider and complete datacentre solution.

"It also means we will be getting into the world of virtualisation. We sell everything that has to do with the commercial fitting of a datacentre other than the server," he said.

"Avocent fits our line-up really well and offers our customers a lot of value in the datacentre and the high-end computer space we look after."

Sultana said the distribution deal also provided Anixter with access to the vendor's demonstration equipment, consulting, training and promotional support.

"It is particularly well suited to banks, big organisations and IT managers with challenging situations," he said. "Avocent already has a strong channel and we will be there to support them."

Sultana said Anixter would bundle the Avocent range with everything from racks, cabinets and cabling solutions, depending on the customer's needs.

Avocent country manager, Ed Havlik, said he previously worked with Anixter in the US, where the distributor maintains elite Avocent partner status.

"It's important that we are part of the configuration when a new datacentre project is coming on-board," he said. "With the types of partners and the solutions Anixter offers, along with Avocent solutions and the type of partners we have, it's a natural fit.

Comsol also distributes Avocent products.

"Having two value-added distributors is the perfect mix for the A/NZ market," Havlik said.
