NCR to manage ATM cash supply

NCR will make a pitch to Australia's top five banks this month to manage the supply and demand of cash to its ATMs nationwide, proving that IT service is diversifying.

Using OptiCash, an inventory management tool developed by Transoft, NCR proposes to take over the optimisation of cash supply to ATMs, a task typically managed by banks in-house.

According to James Rike, senior consultant in NCR America's professional services, self-service group, this will include maintaining contracts with armoured car carriers on behalf of the financial institution and could, in the long term, see NCR managing the entire cash reserves of suburban, regional and city branches.

"Filling up ATMs with cash and managing contracts is not a banking skill, it's inventory management," Rike said.
