Computer Associates has begun shipping the BrightStor ARCserve Backup v9 for Windows. The software provides automated data protection and lets users plug in separately offered options and agents, depending on their needs. The software is designed for ease of use, according to CA, and the vendor has also worked on an intuitive installation process. Version 9 allows technicians to specify separate network paths for backup tasks, isolating massive backup-related file movements from important transactions. It also offers new scheduling capabilities for automating tasks such as drive cleaning, database maintenance as well as for routine backups. CA is offering a special maintenance bundle, which includes 24x7 technical support and upgrade protection, with the new version. The Windows version is available immediately and will support .Net Server upon its general availability. A NetWare version of BrightStor ARCserve Backup will ship next month and a Linux version will also be available for beta testing. Base price for the software will start at $1,300.
