Trend Micro frees remote management console

Claims most registered resellers are offering managed services to SMB customers

Security vendor, Trend Micro, is offering free access to its remote management console to partners.

The Worry-Free Remote Manager hosted console allows a reseller to monitor and centrally manage SMB customers from the one remote environment. SMB marketing manager, Greg Boyle, said its long-term plan had always been to make the tool available at no cost to its active channel partners.

About 400 of Trend Micro's resellers have registered to use the console since its launch last July.

Nearly 90 per cent of partners who registered to use the console already maintained some form of a managed service, Boyle said. Now, many others were signing up as a way of reducing the cost of doing business, he claimed.

"What we're trying to do is focus our efforts on building better products and reduce costs for partners," he said. "And particularly for Australian partners, having a central Web management tool that allows you to manage a wide coverage of customers from one place makes sense."

Trend Micro also plans to integrate more SMB-oriented products into the management console this year as they are released, Boyle said. At present, the console works with the vendor's Client Server Security for SMB and Client Server Messaging Security for SMB products.
