Tripoint ups managed services with Virgin mobile contract

Sydney-based integrator, Tripoint, is looking to expand its managed services practice and claims it has secured several key customer wins.

The integrator recently completed a $1.3 million contract with Virgin Mobile to upgrade server and storage infrastructure across its datacentres. Managing director, Vaughan Stibbard, said the contract was a significant win because it was based around Tripoint's managed services capabilities.

He estimated the integrator's managed services business now accounted for up to 40 per cent of contracted value. "Managed services is an area we are most focused on and looking to expand," he said. "We've had significant success with existing customers over the past 12 months and a number of key clients in Melbourne are now taking on our managed services."

The deal with Virgin saw Tripoint architect, configure and deliver HP Itanium-based servers as well as EMC Clarion CX380 mid-range storage arrays. The technology refresh is part of Virgin Mobile's plans to ramp up 3G network take-up. It also provided consulting services and ITIL-based processes to help improve operational efficiencies and increase customer service levels. Another top priority was decommissioning legacy equipment and business critical systems.

"Virgin's big focus is getting its IT team to take the strategic high ground and drive initiatives. With our managed services, we can deliver a more tactical and operational approach that addresses these needs," Stibbard said.

Tripoint initially worked with Virgin Mobile's internal team and HP to architect its billing platform when it launched locally, he said. It re-engaged with the company two years ago, providing PeopleSoft management skills across Virgin's infrastructure.
