Security vendor, Blue Coat, has brought on Computerlinks as a distributor in the Australian market. The company will sit alongside Firewall Systems and LAN Systems.
Blue Coat general manager, Wayne Neich, said it had a long-standing arrangement with Computerlinks in the UK. The pair had worked together in EMEA and US.
Neich said Computerlinks would focus on boosting Blue Coat's presence in the Australian service provider market. The security distributor's managing director, Matthew Hales, said the local market was growing fast.
"In the short term we see tremendous opportunity in the service provider market and we have had experience with players in the past, such as BT in the UK," he said.
UK-based Computerlinks launched in Australia six months ago and now has six vendors on-board including Crossbeam Systems, Ultimaco and Lumension.
Neich said Computerlinks would complement Firewall's penetration of the tier-one security reseller space.
"Firewall's resellers are looking to provide best-of-breed solutions to their customers - these partners are doing complex security problem solving typically for enterprise and government customers," he said. "Computerlinks is key in our expansion into the service provider market."
Blue Coat produces Web gateway encryption as well as acceleration tools for Web-based, Microsoft and TCP-based applications. Neich said the rise of Web 2.0 and the need for enterprises to better monitor sites like Facebook and MySpace was creating new opportunities for its technologies.
"Customers today are realising that rather than just blocking these sites, they can also be useful. Businesses had to change their views on uTube for example, when the prime minister posted his speech there before any other mass media," he said.
Richer media usage was also presenting challenges for organisations in terms of data usage, he said.
Blue Coat's acceleration tools could speed up application access across an organisation's Internet and WAN capacity, he said.
