KVM Australia has landed a distribution deal with Taiwanese GPS vendor, Global-Sat. The partnership will see it stocking GlobalSat's Bluetooth GPS units, the GV automotive range and GPS wrist watch.
National sales manager, Kurk Brandstater, said even though GPS had nothing to do with its core KVM switch business, it was a niche market that was not being properly addressed.
"People had been asking us to get it in for them so we sourced GlobalSat," he said. "We thought we would give it a go."
Brandstater said if it becomes successful he would consider building up that leg of the business. "It seems to be going really well," he said. "One of our strong points is that we are reasonably small and we can do niche products quite well." Brandstater estimated the GlobalSat range could add about $200,000 per year to KVM's bottom line.
SoHo and small resellers were best suited to the GPS range, he said.
The distributor will provide resellers with a demonstration discount.
"We are probably going to move the products through our current channels. Hopefully through that exposure, we will be able to attract resellers from other areas to come on board once they see we are stocking the devices," Brandstater said.
