WD aims at Apple through Simms appointment

NSW-based components and accessories distributor, Simms International, has inked a deal with Western Digital (WD) to carry its My Book Pro and Pro II series external storage drives.

My Book Pro Edition II is a dual drive storage system that can hold up to 2TB of storage. Simms managing director, Danny Moore, said it had been and had been appointed to focus on the Apple channel.

"We needed an external storage vendor that was a leading brand in its chosen markets," he said.

Achieva, Synnex, Westan and Todaytech also distribute WD products.

WD Asia Pacific director of sales and marketing, Craig Davis, said the partnership was a marriage of convenience.

"We have the major retail and reseller channel covered off but one market we were lacking and not getting into was the Apple channel," he said.

In other news, Simms has appointed David Strong to its board as a non-executive director. He comes with a wealth of experience including a long stint as managing director of Apple Australia from 1981-1994. He has been Simms chairman since 1999.

The distributor has also moved into new warehousing within its current St Leonards complex that is four times larger than its previous facility.
