Introducing the new Canon PowerShot A80 with revolutionary PictBridge support

Intuitive operation and value packed performance.

Key Points:
· High-resolution 4.0 megapixel CCD sensor;
· Powerful Canon 3x optical lens;
· Vari-angle LCD monitor allowing for 180 degree rotation of LCD monitor for angled shooting and viewing; and
· Direct Print and PictBridge enabled printing straight from the camera to any Direct Print or PictBridge compatible printer.

Sydney, 21 August 2003 – Canon Australia today announced the PowerShot A80 digital camera, bringing a new level of higher specifications, advanced features and exceptional value to the digital still camera market. Affordably priced, the PowerShot A80 comes equipped with a 4.0 megapixel CCD sensor, Canon 3x optical zoom, movie recording and audio playback capabilities, PictBridge compatibility and a vari-angle LCD monitor.

“The availability of this combination of technologies at this price point makes the PowerShot A80 exceptional value for money,” said Shannon Tweedie, Product Manager, Consumer Imaging Products Group, Canon Australia.

“The PowerShot A80 is leading an emerging trend within the digital still camera market where we are seeing increasing specifications and operability within all levels of the market,” commented Ms Tweedie.

The PowerShot A80 maintains its ease of use and intuitive interface, whilst incorporating many of the features previously reserved for high-end or ‘enthusiast’ level digital cameras. This makes the camera ideal for the user who is familiar with 35mm film cameras and the principles of photography as well as those new to digital imaging and photography. The intuitive and easy to use interface allows simple point-and-shoot operation, or full manual control for those wanting to take their photography further.

The PowerShot A80 is the newest addition to the hugely popular PowerShot range. Building on the features of the PowerShot A70, the PowerShot A80 has an extra megapixel, an even sturdier body and a clever vari-angle LCD monitor.

“We expect the popularity of the PowerShot A80 to mirror that of the widely acclaimed PowerShot A70 which has been a hit due to its useability, feature set and value,” added Ms Tweedie.

The PowerShot A80’s ease of use and adaptability make it a very versatile camera perfect for many uses including family photos, holidays and even underwater photography. Like many of Canon’s digital cameras, the PowerShot A80’s optional waterproof case allows full use of the camera at depths of up to 40 metres.

Introducing PictBridge - Direct Printing straight from the PowerShot A80 to any enabled printer
All current Canon compact digital cameras are Direct Print enabled allowing users to produce prints without a PC by connecting the camera straight to Canon Bubble Jet printers. The PowerShot A80 is the first Canon digital camera to feature the revolutionary technology PictBridge, which facilitates printing directly to any PictBridge compatible printer.

PictBridge is the new industry standard in direct photo printing that enables consumers to connect PictBridge compatible digital cameras or digital video (DV) cameras directly to any PictBridge enabled printer, making it easy to print pictures at home, the office or while travelling.
