Distribution Central has leapt into eighth position in the 2007 BRW Fast 100 list of Australia's fastest growing companies.
Marketing director, Nick Verykios, said it had experienced about 169 per cent cumulative growth and doubled its turnover to $29 million since it began operating as Firewall Systems three years ago. Firewall Systems is now a business unit under the Distribution Central umbrella.
"It is nice to sit in that top 10 spot. We've been through growth before and it's exciting for us to get these accolades outside of the industry. People are seeing the things we are doing as a business," Verykios said. "It feels like we are doing something right in among the chaos of this industry - especially at the distribution level. We've been able to capitalise on that and it will continue to work for us."
Distribution Central has two other business units - NetWorld Systems and RED Education. Verykios said two more were on the way.
"We have been able to grow the business with the services model we launched three years ago. So many people said we were crazy but this is why vendors have come to us from all areas," he said. "We are just about launch into storage and voice as well as a few other service businesses like annuity."
The distributor had doubled staff numbers to 40 and will have 45 people on-board when the new business units were launched, Verykios said. It had also opened regional offices in Perth and Auckland, New Zealand and shifted to a new logistics facility based in Artarmon, Sydney.
"We have an incredible team and our differentiator can only be our people," Verykios said. "We're going to continue to employ the best quality people - we will not rush to do that. They have to be exceptional and maverick."
To maintain growth, Distribution Central would continue to develop new services and deal with leading technology vendors, he said.
"The services range from engineering, business development to financial planning," he said. "Especially with augmentation services we look to add maintenance, upgrades and high availability services. We can scale all these expensive things resellers can't do themselves so they can go to the table and get the deal."
Four other IT companies were listed in the top ten of BRW's Fast 100 list this year: Itcom Australia (second), Brennan Software Development (fifth), Telcoinabox (seventh) and Atlassian Software Systems (ninth).
