Sydney-based Altech Computers has inked a distribution deal with Taiwanese motherboard manufacturer, VIA.
The deal will see Altech exclusively provide VIA's microprocessor on motherboards (MM) series.
Altech managing director, Antony Sheen, said the vendor was previously distributed by BCN Technology, which went into administration in August last year.
"As soon as BCN stopped doing this, the product was not available for half a year in the country," he said. "They wanted access to a wide range of resellers. VIA fitted in with our range of products and gives variety to our customers."
Altech already distributes a wide range of motherboard vendors including Gigabyte, MSI, Abit, Asrock and newly appointed EVGA.
Sheen said VIA complemented its motherboard offering and was a niche entry level product that was Microsoft Vista Basic certified.
"We didn't have a kind of entry-level product that was a quiet and cool solution," he said. Sheen will consider bundling the range with cases, memory, hard drives and optical devices. VIA project manager, Eric Tung, said he had known Altech for years and was aware of its locally established sales force.
"They were the first company that came to my mind when we decided to penetrate the local market," he said.
