Business Mobility Opportunities Remain Untouched by Services Providers, says IDC

<p>NORTH SYDNEY, 19 September 2007, - IDC’s latest research in the Australian business market finds mobile service providers are missing a significant market opportunity. IDC’s analysis shows there is a sizable latent base of business users that have an increasing desire to go mobile and leverage the non-voice channel with mobile email, IP PBX functionality, and mission critical business applications.</p>
<p>"There is tremendous opening in the Australian market for service providers that can provide a clear and compelling case for enterprise mobility solutions. Mobile penetration in the Australian business segment is an escalating phenomenon, and there are untapped opportunities along the farthest ends of the business spectrum," says Jerson Yau, Research Analyst, Mobile and Wireless Research, IDC Australia. He adds, "Mobile solutions and services addressing a tangible return, improved cost efficiencies, and a high level of manageability will have universal appeal among organisations irrespective of their unique industries or size of operations. However it is critical that the benefits of mobility are communicated in a relevant business context by mobility stakeholders."</p>
<p>IDC’s analysis, titled "Australia Business Mobile Vertical 2007-2011 Forecast and Analysis: Me Against The World" is the second annual update of IDC’s coverage of the Australian business mobility market. The report presents an updated five-year forecast of the Australian business mobile market with an in-depth examination by business verticals. Business mobile spend on voice and non-voice services are forecasted from 2007 to 2011. Industry trends and contrasts by vertical adoption are investigated to provide a future outlook and essential guidance for mobile service and solutions providers in the enterprise mobility ecosystem.</p>

<p># In 2006, the Australian business segment spent A$4.25 billion on mobile voice, messaging, and data services. The market will be underpinned by voice services through substitution effects coupled with the steady conversion of latent business mobile users to adopt enterprise mobility solutions.</p>
<p># IDC expects that there will be increasing demand by the management hierarchy and workforce on-the-ground to mobilise business applications and processes to take advantage of the perpetually-connected nature of mobile services. IDC forecasts that mobile non-voice services will enjoy double-digit growth rates over the five-year period and across all business vertical industries.</p>
<p># The leading spenders on business mobility hark from professional services, manufacturing and primary industries, and retail/wholesale sector. The large public sector encompassing government, education, and healthcare represents the mid-market with a curious blend of leading and lagging usage. Banking and finance tends to be poorly penetrated and is one of the lowest contributors to business mobile spending.</p>
<p># IDC recommends that mobile stakeholders continue their efforts and skills build-up in understanding their business customers, particularly on an industry vertical level. This will allow them to communicate more transparently, painting a big picture view of communications technology, and aligning the relevancy in delivering IT and business outcomes through enterprise mobility solutions.</p>
<p># IDC also recommends that mobile stakeholders develop new business models for the business mid-market as small businesses and corporate enterprises are well penetrated. Mobility solutions delivering on business outcomes should be continually measured to emphasise the positive expectation that businesses often neglect to quantify throughout the solution's lifecycle.</p>
