Patriot Memory swaps Cellnet for Australia IT

Australia IT aims Patriot at upgrade and system builder market

US-based memory vendor, Patriot Memory, has parted ways with Cellnet and signed up Australia IT as its new distributor.

Cellnet general manager for product development and procurement, Julian Phua, said the companies had agreed to end their distribution relationship because of Cellnet's focus on another memory vendor, Transcend.

Cellnet distributed Patriot's high-end memory products.

Australia IT business development manager, David Wilson, said Patriot was perceived as being in the market for the long haul.

"We were particularly pleased with Patriot in terms of their attitude to longevity in the market and of not being a shooting star," he said.

Australia IT also distributed OCZ memory products but Wilson said Patriot would complement that range without taking market share from OCZ.

The Victorian distributor would be taking on the entire Patriot range, and would use Patriot to target primarily the upgrade and system builder market.

"We had some system builders change to Patriot for a number of reasons, [related to] quality and consistency -- particularly in relation to DDR2 800 modules," he said.

"With the Patriot Signature series you don't need to alter the BIOS settings. They are set to run at 1.8V, whereas other DDR2 800 modules, you have go into the BIOS and reset it, which is a time constraint."
