Avnet takes on branded Kingston lines

Memory vendor looks to raise profile

Avnet has joined Simms International and Ingram Micro in offering the full range of Kingston branded products as the vendor rationalises its Australasian approach.

Kingston branded lines include memory for major brands including IBM, HP and Dell. Avnet has been distributing Kingston ValueRAM and flash memory for about two years.

The vendor's regional manager, Vaughan Nankivell, said the move came alongside a Kingston decision to rationalise its approach to Australia and New Zealand - treating both as one region, reporting to Taiwan with support via the US.

"We want to ensure that we add value to the channel," Nankivell said. "When we're supporting a mission-critical environment, we want our name to be as well known as other brands."

Products had to be good and the channel needed enough knowledge and support to communicate the message, Nankivell said. That would be easier with a unified approach to Australia and New Zealand.

Kingston was also promising service-level reimbursement, meaning customers could get free 24-hour support through the US support centre, Nankivell said.

Its fourth Australian distributor, Synnex, would continue to offer ValueRAM and flash only, he said.
