Altech gets a stroke of Genius

Vendor hopes to make $100,000 in sales per month

Altech Computers has signed up to become a distributor for Taiwanese computer peripherals vendor, Genius.

Altech will have access to the whole range of Genius product including keyboards, mice, game controls, specialised keypads, speakers and an LCD-enabled key ring that can download up to 80 images by USB from a PC. The vendor also manufactures digital notepads.

Altech managing director, Antony Sheen, said it had been talking to Genius for a while with a view to rounding out the company's midrange offering.

"We have Microsoft and Razer, which are high-end but we didn't have anything to fill in the midrange demand," he said.

"Genius products have interesting functions - like their media centre keyboard for example. Many vendors use infrared but they use FM radio, which means that you can be far from your media centre, type on the keyboard and the media centre will receive that [input]."

Sheen said the distributor hoped to make about $100,000 in sales of Genius gear each month.

He will target the range at mass merchants and its reseller channel, which consists of about 6000 partners. Training will be offered to partners and Sheen said he planned to the bundle the range with motherboards, video cards and computer cases.
