Storage management vendor, CommVault, has hired Andrew Milburn as its new director of channel sales.
He has about 20 years experience in the IT channel and previously worked for the Dickson's group in the UK.
Regional managing director, Gerry Sillars, said the vendor decided it was time to split the sales functions with country manager, Joe McPhillips, who would now focus on financial and commercial sales. Milburn's first point of focus was to tweak the vendor's partner certification program, Sillars said.
"Andrew has come on-board to drive our programs and ensure partners are working towards gaining the levels of certification we think they require," he said.
CommVault's year-old certification program was arduous for most partners, Sillars said.
"Previously you needed to complete an administration course as a prerequisite and you needed to understand everything that was in our books," he said.
Its new certifications come on the back of its release of its Simpana 7.0 software suite that includes secure search and discovery capabilities. Sillars said the new qualifications were specific to support, administration and engineering.
He also hoped to launch a sales certification program in the next couple of months.
"You just can't give certifications out - partners need to understand the product set to be certified and I think that is what we have achieved with the new program. We want to have as many certified partners as we can in the market place," Sillars said.
The vendor is also setting up an archival practice, which would be built out from the team under Milburn.
"The archival market place is pretty dynamic and we feel it is important enough for us to have a team of people whose role is to work with sales and channel partners," Sillars said. "It is an extra resource for the channel to help them sell more."
