Ingram US launches hardware-as-a-service

Distributor unveils managed services offering for resellers but has no current plans for an Australian equivalent

Ingram Micro's North American subsidiary has launched a managed services offering allowing resellers to bundle hardware, software and professional services into a single customer contract. However, there are no current plans to extend the service to Australian channel partners.

The new Seismic Solution Financing offer aims to enable resellers to develop, sell and finance complete outsourced IT solutions for a fixed monthly fee. In a statement, Ingram Micro vice-president of services, Justin Crotty, said it freed up a reseller's cash flow while growing their business opportunities.

"This flexible, no-hassle financing solution is just another way Ingram Micro's services division is working to simplify the managed services sale cycle and establish re-occurring revenue streams for our partners," he said.

The Seismic program was being supported by training and education courses covering the front and back-end resources resellers needed to develop a holistic IT managed service, Crotty said.

Local managing director, Guy Freeland, said it had not done any work on such an offering in Australia but didn't rule out taking a look. He compared the Seismic service to a rental or leasing agreement.

"It's potentially viable - however, the issue with financing options being pushed by distributors in the past is that often times the parties requiring the funding is the end user, which distributors don't get to," he said. "We've never put too much effort into this as it hasn't seemed something that's easy to juggle."
