Managed services provider, Hostworks, has scored a three-year contract with the Australian News Channel to deliver online infrastructure and applications for its Sky News contingent. Financial details were not disclosed.
Hostworks sales and marketing director, Klaus Bartosch, said Sky News intended to overhaul the way in which it dealt with its online content.
"Its online portal has not really represented an important part of its business until now," he said. "Sky News has chosen to work with us because it is embarking on a fairly serious journey in the way it is looking to rebuild and position its online presence. It wanted to make sure it was engaging with somebody with a track record in running significant online environments, which we clearly do."
Hostworks client base includes Network Ten and SBS. In June, it renewed its deal with online media portal, ninemsn. It will provide Sky News with all the hardware, software and services to manage not just the underlying network and server infrastructure but also the application environments.
Bartosch said the client was searching for a provider that could scale with them and support their demands.
"One of the things about news portals is that when a major event occurs, they tend to get hammered pretty hard by the community for information," he said. "Sky News wanted somebody that was able to provide the support to ensure people could confidently get to their site and access information successfully."
