Archive Appliance Express Bundled with GE Centricity™ PACS System to Simplify Data Management for Medical SMBs

SYDNEY. NSW., July 27, 2007 – AustSTOR Plasmon’s Value Added Australian Distributor partner, today announces -- that GE Healthcare purchased the first installment of Plasmon’s Archive Appliance Express developed specifically to address the needs of small-to-medium-sized medical businesses (SMBs). These initial units were acquired for use in the Japanese market where value, dependability and quality are key drivers for product adoption and acceptance.
Plasmon worked closely with GE Healthcare to bring the Archive Appliance Express to Picture Archiving Communication System (PACS) offerings. As a result, the Plasmon Archive Appliance Express is integrated with the GE Centricity™ PACS System and comes pre-configured with the Centricity software so it is simple to install and maintain for the medical SMB market.
“We saw a need in the medical market for an archiving solution that easily managed the growing archive demands, requirements and constraints of a SMB without the complexity and cost of an enterprise level product,” said Mike Koclanes, Chief Strategy Officer and Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Plasmon. “The shipment of these first units to GE Healthcare validates the market opportunity for the Archive Appliance Express as well as the technology behind the product.”
When compared to other archiving options, Plasmon’s UDO (Ultra Density Optical) technology provides trusted data authenticity, permanence, and media longevity that meets the needs of GE Healthcare customers. GE Healthcare has received 25 units in this first shipment and will be using the Archive Appliance Express for its SMB customer base that require long-term, authenticated, compliant data retrieval capabilities at a low total cost of ownership.
Plasmon’s Archive Appliance Express is a tiered storage solution that allows data to be cached on RAID for quick access while being immediately committed to UDO for long-term retention. The integrated Archive Appliance Express ships with new 60GB UDO2 technology, and SATA RAID protection. Software for storage and media management is also included at no additional charge. To provide investment protection for growing businesses, there is a transparent migration process to larger Plasmon Archive Appliances.

“The relationship with Plasmon and GE further demonstrates that Plasmon’s UDO Technology is becoming the de-facto standard for Professional long-term Digital Archiving. said Bruce Macdonald, Business Development Manager at ADS (AustSTOR Data Storage). “The Australian SMB Medical market has been waiting for a low cost permanent archiving solution to invest in for some time now. I believe the simplicity of setup and management of the Archive Appliance Express will complement a lot of Australian SMB Healthcare applications.” Macdonald said.
