NSW pushes back notebook and server dates

The NSW Government has extended existing whole-of-government panel arrangements for notebook and low-end servers as it aligns forthcoming contracts with its PeopleFirst ICT strategy.

According to a statement on its website, the existing ITS2000 notebook contract will remain in place until July 31. This also covers portable PC products such as tablet PCs and PDAs.

Its servers (low, mid and high-end products) contract will continue until the end of September. The Department of Commerce is now advising agencies to defer significant purchases in both categories until the new contract gets underway.

The extension comes two months after the government named its desktop PC panel under the new ITS2007 contract. Successful panellists are Acer, HP, Lenovo, ASI Solutions and Optima. The notebook and server component was due to be announced on June 30.

There are currently 12 providers listed for portable PC or low-end servers procurement including Dell, Acer, HP, Panasonic and Toshiba. Local suppliers include Pioneer, ASI, Optima and Ipex.
