Server and storage distributor, Digicor, has opened the doors to its first New Zealand office.
National sales manager, Richard Huang, said it had worked with a select group of customers across the Tasman for some years.
He said the size of the NZ market, along with the absence of strong competitors in the workstation, server and storage space, had presented a good opportunity.
"It's more to do with special products which they find difficult to source in New Zealand.
"There's no distributor in that market at our level that can offer as wide a range," he claimed.
Huang said all of its vendors were supportive of its expansion plan. Some, including 3ware, had not previously been represented in that market. Other Digicor vendors include Supermicro, Tyan, Aten, Leadtek, Chenbro and Zippy.
Digicor has appointed former T Data sales manager, Craig Willis, to head up NZ sales.
Huang said his 10 years experience in IT and channel was a great asset. The company recruited several staff to cover technical support as well as accounts. It was also looking to grow its sales team.
The new two-storey office and warehouse is based in Auckland. It had the capacity to hold about two months' worth of stock, Huang said.
Based in NSW, Digicor also has operations in Queensland, Victoria and WA.
