Brocade chases FANs

New Broacde appointment to push its File Area Network business

Networked storage vendor, Brocade, will be chasing down new partners for its File Area Network (FAN) products in the second half of the year. The news follows the appointment of Charlie Foo as Asia-Pacific/Japan regional director, partner business group and marketing.

Country manager, Graham Schultz, said Foo would work to varying degrees with Brocade's OEMs, distributors, resellers and global systems integrators. "The OEM side of the portfolio is fairly well cemented at this point but where we will start to have more of a focus in APAC, in particular, is on FANs," he said. "We need to build up and expand that business."

Brocade's FAN products seek to ensure the interoperation of file components in an enterprise through a combination of storage devices and file systems. Schultz said he was looking forward to introducing Foo to the local channel in mid-July to drive both the push for FAN partners and other, currently undisclosed, projects.

"From a regional perspective, Charlie's come on-board to drive initiatives," he said. "There is a lot of autonomy in each country."

The vendor has already introduced a Brocade Visa card, rewarding partners with bonuses of between $50-$1000 per sale of Brocade hardware, he said. It has also begun skilling up technical and sales teams at Ingram Micro with a view to extending the training to its top storage resellers.

Prior to signing on with Brocade, Foo was regional director, channel and alliance for Symantec/Veritas. Past roles include senior regional management positions at IBM (Software Group) and Compaq Asia-Pacific.
