Toshiba has filed a lawsuit against German DVD replicator EDD Bizz over the alleged infringement of DVD patents.
The Japanese company said EDD has been manufacturing DVD videos in Germany without a licensing agreement from Toshiba, which holds some essential patents for making DVDs.
Toshiba filed a lawsuit in the Dusseldorf Regional Court in a bid to halt the alleged patent infringement. It wants a monetary settlement and a licensing agreement from EDD.
Toshiba has filed several lawsuits in the U.S. against companies over patent infringement issues, including a Taiwanese DVD drive maker in 2002, an American importer and wholesaler of DVD-related products in 2005, and 17 manufacturers and importers of DVD-related products in April 2007. The company vowed to continue vigilantly protecting its DVD technology.
