LogicaCMG lands Victoria Education deal

Victorian government selects EDMS system to firm up document security

LogicaCMG has won a year-long tender process to install an electronic document management system (EDMS) at the Victorian Department of Education.

For an undisclosed sum, the integrator will design and implement the system, based on Open Text's LiveLink ECM eDOCS suite. LogicaCMG managing director of business solutions, Hugh Bickerstaff, said that while three potential suitors had been identified early in the process, it had still taken 12 months to get over the line.

"It's fair to say people don't have a huge degree of clarity around their requirements at first," he said. "They need to go through demos and, especially if they haven't implemented a system before, new issues can come up during that proof of concept stage. This has been a longer sales cycle for us."

The new system, which replaces the department's RecFind records management system, will enable specific access privileges to be assigned to view documents, in a bid to improve document version control and security.

"The need for a new system was driven by the department's requirement to comply with Victoria's electronic records management strategy relating to the retention and long-term retrieval of information," Bickerstaff said.

The Victorian Electronic Records Strategy (VERS) covers Victorian Government directives for permanent record storage and retrieval requirements.

The government win faintly echoes LogicaCMG's recent selection as the Queensland Government's whole-of-government EDMS software supplier. Closer to home, Melbourne's Metropolitan Fire and Emergency Services Board is also implementing an EDMS built on LogicaCMG and Open Text smarts.
