Compaq Computer has entered into a joint marketing agreement with Sesami.com, a Singapore-based electronic commerce portal run by a subsidiary of Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel), the companies announced here on Thursday.
The aim is to build a strong business-to-business e-commerce hub for companies across the region, allying SingTel's communications resources with Compaq's NonStop computing products and Sesami's software, the companies said in a statement.
The initial joint marketing efforts will be focused on ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) countries including Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, as well as India, Sesami said. The rollout of Sesami to the region will begin immediately, according to Lee Kwok Cheong, deputy chairman of Sesami, and chief executive officer of SingTel subsidiary National Computer Systems, which operates Sesami.
Under the terms of the agreement, Compaq will promote and resell Sesami as one of the preferred providers of e-procurement products and services to its large enterprise accounts. In turn, Sesami will evangelise the deployment of its products on Compaq platforms and Compaq's Professional Services as an implementation partner.
The Sesami portal was launched at the beginning of this month to link buyers and sellers in the region to a global trading web of online marketplaces. It is one element in SingTel's emerging e-commerce strategy which also includes a $US50 million joint venture with US portal and online community company Lycos.
