CA has inked a distribution agreement with Atari to help strengthen its presence in retail.
The distributor will have access to CA's home and small office range, which consists of CA Internet Security Suite, CA Anti-Virus, CA Anti-Spyware, and CA Desktop DNA Migrator.
Home and small office director, Patrina Kerr, said it sifted through many of the retail specialised distributors in the market and Atari had met its requirements.
"We recognised about six months ago that we needed to have far more focused partners in the retail channel. There are actually not many distributors in A/NZ that focus and specialise solely on the retail," she said. "For us, it provides the ability to drive partner sales into that space."
Atari joins Ingram Micro and Saratoga in CA's distribution line-up. Kerr said its route to market varies from SMB type resellers through to OEMs.
"Retail is extremely competitive in Australia. We recognised that to be able to achieve some of our objectives, we needed to have a differentiator in the market," she said.
"For us that included a field sales team and channel account management, which Atari can bring."
Atari Asia-Pacific managing director, Gerard Noonan, said it had been looking to broaden its product portfolio. The company has largely focused on gaming and hardware devices.
"It's specialist product to some degree but we are looking at taking it broader," he said.
"It shows we are a diverse business that is able to look at products outside of our core area.
"I think it's going to bring some other opportunities for us as well." Noonan said it would take the range to its existing retail base, which included Harvey Norman and Office-Works.
He said he would look at potentially bundling CA products with its entertainment PC range and would work together with the vendor to provide staff initiatives and training.
