Techplus finds new focus on security

Distributor brought on to broaden channel for Barracuda security products

Melbourne-based Techplus has joined ChannelWorx and Whitegold Solutions as the latest local distributor of Barracuda's security products suite.

"We were looking for a pro-active, technically adept partner to assist us with our reseller recruitment and rapidly growing business in Australia," Barracuda national sales manager, John Bellarts, said. "We offer healthy double-digit margins for our channel and don't really want to get caught up in the mix and be just another vendor that's commoditised in a larger distributor."

Techplus will distribute all of the vendor's product portfolio including anti-spam, Web and IM filtering and load balancing tools. Techplus managing director, Paul Kern, said it would provide a range of value-added services to resellers, such as training up partners and providing technical assistance to help qualify customer opportunities.

"These are the sorts of products that do really require this. They are not like Microsoft Office where you can sell it off the shelf," he said.

Techplus already offers email security products through its partnership with Secure Computing. However, these were targeted at the high end, unlike Barracuda which was more suited to SME, Kern said.

"This will increase our market reach," he said.

The distributor took stock of all of Barracuda's products a few weeks ago and was now on a recruitment drive to pick up partners looking to sell its products, Kern said.
