Network Appliance Honours Customers with Third Annual NetApp Innovation Awards

<p>SYDNEY, Australia - 31 May 2007 - Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP), a leader in advanced network storage solutions, honored the winners of the 2006 NetApp Innovation Awards at an awards ceremony last week at the Clos LaChance winery at CordeValle Resort in San Martin, Calif. The NetApp Innovation Awards recognise customers who have implemented NetApp® solutions in an innovative way to positively impact their business.</p>
<p>Over 130 nominees competed for awards in the following six categories: Innovator of the Year, Enterprise Business Applications, Enterprise Infrastructure, Individual, Humanitarian, and Small and Medium-Sized Business (SMB). One winner and two finalists were selected in each category by a third-party panel of judges that consisted of distinguished business and technology experts from the media and business communities.</p>

<p>The Innovator of the Year winner, Infosys Technologies, Ltd., is a world leader in consulting and information technology services. Finalists in the Innovator of the Year category included T-Systems, the largest ICT services provider in Germany, and Petrobras, a Brazilian energy company specializing in socially responsible oil production.</p>
<p>In the Enterprise Business Application category, which honored customers worldwide who have deployed NetApp systems for business applications and demonstrated measurable returns in cost savings, efficiencies, or other business metrics, the winner was Legal &amp; General, one of the UK’s leading financial services companies. Hydro IS Partner, one of the world’s leading energy and materials provider was a finalist.</p>
<p>The Enterprise Infrastructure award distinguishes customers worldwide who have deployed NetApp systems to power data centre, workgroup, department, collaborative, or HPC applications and can demonstrate innovation with NetApp products. This year’s winner was Sentara Healthcare, a premier not-for-profit healthcare provider in southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. The finalist was MASERGY, a global service provider specializing in simplifying business networks for enterprises.</p>
<p>Britt Houser, software/QA engineer, Datacenter, Switching and Security Customer Operations and Mark Voelker, team lead, Datacenter, Switching and Security Customer Operations for Cisco won in the Individual category, which recognises an individual within a customer organization who has achieved business success through innovation with NetApp solutions or has championed streamlined or innovative solutions within the IT organisation.</p>
<p>Tim Dietrich, storage architect for Agilent, a technology leader in communications, electronics, life sciences, and chemical analysis, and Jurgen Teeken, program manager at ASML, a world leader in the manufacture of advanced technology systems for the semiconductor industry, were finalists.</p>
<p>Southcentral Foundation, a nonprofit, native-owned and -operated healthcare organisation, took home top honors in the Humanitarian category. The Humanitarian category recognises a company or individual that exemplifies humanitarianism by giving back to the community. MDRC, a nonprofit, nonpartisan social policy research organisation, and Sentara Healthcare, winner of this year’s Enterprise Infrastructure award, were finalists.</p>
<p>FES Systems Inc., manufacturer of industrial refrigeration equipment, was the winner in the SMB category, which honors customers who have deployed a StoreVault™ product to demonstrably reduce storage complexity, improve performance, or move to a thoughtful networked storage environment. The finalists in this category were Melco Industries, the industry leader of complete embroidery solutions for the home-based entrepreneurial and commercial markets, and Ahearn, Jasco &amp; Co., P.A., a south Florida accounting firm.</p>
<p>The NetApp Innovation Awards program distinguishes itself by relying on a prestigious third-party panel as judges. These judges determine the award winners based on their outside expertise and a critical, unbiased assessment of real-world NetApp deployments at customer sites.</p>
<p>Innovation Awards judges for 2006 included Carol Bartz, executive chairman of the board of directors, Autodesk; Pascal Boulard, editor, La Tribune; Carsten Knop, senior business editor, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung; Joe Kovar, senior editor, CRN; Jo Maitland, news director,; and Dave Simpson, editor-in-chief, InfoStor.</p>
