Epicor makes strategic buy to expand presence in Australia

More than 70 staff transfer to Epicor

Midmarket software provider Epicor today announced it is expanding its direct presence in Australia with the acquisition of Professional Advantage's Epicor division.

Since 1996, Professional Advantage has consistently been one of Epicor's most successful reseller partners supporting 130 customers using Epicor's ERP solutions. As a result Epicor will acquire the Epicor division of Professional Advantage.

Professional Advantage has several other divisions including a Microsoft and Sun Systems division which are unaffected by the sale.

Under the terms of the agreement, Epicor has acquired vertical market software extensions, customer contracts, and other related intellectual property of Professional Advantage's Epicor Division. All 70-plus Professional Advantage employees will transfer to the vendor.

Full financial details were not disclosed, however, Epicor COO, Mark Duffell, said the two organizations have a long history in Australia and bringing them together will increase customer value.

Professional Advantage joint managing director, Derek Rippingale said it is the ultimate complement when a vendor acquires a reselling partner.

"I would like to assure our Epicor customers that they will continue to receive the same high level of service and support from the same people - now directly from the maker of the software," he said.

Professional Advantage will continue its strong growth with the Microsoft, SunSystems and Infrastructure divisions.

The Professional Advantage's Epicor Division operations will join with Epicor's existing Australasia operations.

Following the acquisition, Epicor will have approximately 100 employees and more than 400 customers in the region.

Former general manager of Professional Advantage and newly appointed vice president of Epicor's Australasian operations, Craig Charlton, said that although Epicor is a global provider it is keenly aware of the opportunity the Australian market represents.

"With the acquisition, our customers will now have direct access to increased resources, not only in Australia, but wherever they do business," he added.

Home grown company Professional Advantage was established in 1989 while Epicor was founded in 1984 and serves over 20,000 customers in more than 140 countries.
