Bicknell follows Davenport out of Cellnet

General sales manager quits his post just 8 months into the job

Another member of the senior management team has headed for the Cellnet exit. General sales manager, Martin Bicknell, parted company with the distributor on Monday after just eight months in the job.

His departure follows the resignation of managing director, Adam Davenport, on Friday. Bicknell refused to comment on whether he had jumped or was pushed.

"I was recruited by Adam [Davenport], so you can draw your own conclusions," he said.

Sources close to the company have suggested Cellnet's board and management team were split over its transition from telecommunications to IT. Bicknell confirmed management had wanted to take a different direction from the board.

"My job was to grow sales and work with the restructure team. We were heading that way," he said. "The way the board wanted the business to go wasn't in line with what I was able to give them."

Bicknell said he was disappointed to be leaving the Queensland-based distributor.

"It's a disappointing thing for me as we could see some good changes coming from the new structure. The sales team was settling in and we were starting to get some good results," he said.

Bicknell's resume includes stints with a reseller (Byte Power), systems integrators (Loop Technology and Kanbay), a distributor (Tech Pacific) and vendors including Compaq.

He said he would take some time out to work out what to do next, but was keen to remain in the industry.

"I have some options I'm looking at, but will take some time to look at what's out there," he said.

Davenport has been replaced at the helm by Cellnet's former chief financial officer, Mark Bloomer.

Despite the upset caused by the departure of two senior executives, Cellnet chairman, Reg Clairs, was confident the remainder of its management team would stay put.
