Melbourne-based Next IP Distribution has extended its wholesale agreement with communications equipment vendor, Aastra Telecom.
Director, Nick Touzeau, said it had been dealing with the vendor for the past five years but had only had access to its convergent PBX products. It would now be able to obtain the full range of new SIP handsets, DECT overIP and IP PBXs.
"We have largely dealt with a specific market - convergent PBXs - and have mainly sold to telephony resellers," he said. "Aastra now lends itself to a much broader range of products and services, which will appeal to a broader reseller channel."
The new Aastra 5i series SIP phones feature large LCD screens, programmable function keys and expansion modules for operator consoles. They also offer enhanced productivity via embedded XML browsers and full duplex speaker phones.
"A lot of these products have not been made available to Australian resellers. We will be getting our hands on these products at the same time they are released overseas," Touzeau said.
The distributor plans to offer resellers a bundled package incorporating SIP phones and PBX equipment. Touzeau said it currently had about 200 dealers. He wanted to expand that base to include systems integrators, application developers and anyone dabbling in convergent technologies.
"We have pretty much been very telephony based and this is our foray into more of the data reseller market," he said.
