Hong Kong: Tuesday, May 18 2004 - Acterna has named John J. Jones IV as its new vice president of sales and services for the Asia Pacific region. Jones assumes overall responsibility for sales operations in the region and brings more than 20 years of communications industry experience to Acterna, including 15 years spent living and working in China, India, New Zealand and Australia. He reports to John D'Anna, executive vice president of global sales and services, and will be based in Hong Kong, site of Acterna's Asia Pacific headquarters.

Jones replaces Jim Platner, who has completed a four-year expatriate assignment as vice president of Asia-Pacific sales and services. Platner remains with Acterna and returns to the United States where he will join the company's major accounts organization with primary responsibility for directing the Verizon account.

"John brings a depth of industry experience and extensive knowledge of communications industry markets throughout the Asia-Pacific region," said D'Anna. "He is ideally positioned to build on the momentum Jim and his team have established by delivering the most innovative and reliable communications test solutions available in the region. Acterna has achieved a growth rate of more than 40 percent for orders in the region through a commitment to innovation, reliability and the highest standards of customer service. John shares this same commitment to our customers and brings the right experience to lead our sales organization to even greater success in the region."

Prior to joining Acterna, Jones served several multi-national corporations and has a long track record for successfully introducing new networking technologies and services in the Asia Pacific region. During an eight-year BellSouth career that started in 1988, he led teams responsible for the company's successful acquisitions of GSM cellular license in New Zealand and Madras, India. As director of business development, he played a leading role in BellSouth's investment to form OPTUS, Australia's first competitive telecommunications carrier.

From 1993 to 1996, Jones served as executive director of business development and operations for BellSouth China. On behalf of the BellSouth/Ji Tong joint venture, he managed relationships with China United Telecommunications, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and other government bodies.

Most recently, Jones served as president of Nextel International Asia Holdings in Hong Kong where he successfully completed the orderly divestiture of Nextel assets in the region. Previously, from 1996 to 2000, he was regional general manager, Business Operations, Asia Pacific Customer Solutions Group for Motorola Asia Pacific Limited. In this role, he led a multi-national staff of more than 250, managed a strategic alliance with Cisco, and introduced GPRS and 3G technologies to the region.

Earlier in his career, Jones held management positions with Faber-Castell Corporation and AT&T.

"The Asia Pacific region represents one of the communications test industry's best growth opportunities," said Jones. "With investment in new network technologies and the deployment of new communications services accelerating at a faster pace than in any other part of the world, it's an exciting time to join Acterna. I look forward to working with our customers as they seek test solutions that help them operate their networks and deliver new services more efficiently."
