Videoconferencing vendor, Polycom, has appointed LAN Systems as its second Australian distributor.
Traditionally serviced by AV specialists, Unitel, the new relationship would allow the vendor to take advantage of the market shift towards converged networks, Polycom country manager, Michael Chetner, said.
"This is an extension of our distribution strategy, rather than change," he said. "There's some overlap, but each distributor has a unique value proposition."
LAN Systems general manager, Wendy O'Keeffe, said the distributor had been in discussions about taking on the Polycom business for some time, and it was good to see the hard work pay off.
"It's an incredibly exciting vendor for us to have. We haven't had this kind of audio/video product before," she said.
LAN had seen increased demand around network integration, adding that the Polycom appointment fitted neatly with the demands of its resellers, O'Keeffe said.
The move had ultimately brought greater choice to Polycom resellers and integrators, Chetner said.
"We shouldn't dismiss current run rate business, but this move allows a choice of how customers view Polycom products in their environments," he said. "That might be in an AV-centric environment or part of a wider network offering."
