ACT-based WestGroup has picked up the distribution of notebook carry case and accessories from Dicota. It will replace the German's incumbent local supplier, Lako Pacific.
WestGroup general manager, Ian Andrews, said it had originally received a tip to examine the vendor's wares from a customer. To date, the distributor had specialised in digital media products, memory upgrades and associated accessories from Lexar, Crucial and Transcend.
"Dicota said it liked our plans for the range and now we're currently in process of relaunching the products in Australia," he said.
Lako Pacific CEO, Evan Kourambas, said the range hadn't fitted comfortably with its digital lifestyle-oriented line-up. While the company had built some brand equity around Dicota, it had been the wrong decision to take it on in the first place.
"It just didn't fit in with the direction we're going in with TV tuners and Corel software," he said. "It was a very smooth transition and it [WestGroup] took all our stock and channel liability."
Andrews said it would look to distribute the Dicota products to existing resellers as well as attract a few new channel partners.
"We'd hope to pick up more resellers on the back of this," he said. "There are some nationwide reseller groups out there, like Leading Edge, for example, with a good spread of stores, that these products would be great in."
Dicota was established in Germany in 1992 to develop and produce bags, cases and accessories for mobile computing.
