Synergy: D-Link captures top connectivity spot

The Synergy Research Group has released a series of reports on consumer connectivity, which indicate that D-Link has captured the top market share position for global consumer networking connectivity.

According to D-Link, the reports reveal that the company shipped more than eight million networking units worldwide in Q1 2004, nearly twice the amount of its nearest competitor.

The company sais the report found that, with consumer connectivity sales of $US182.4 million worldwide in the first quarter, D-Link had led in global revenue share for the 67th quarter in a row.

It said that D-Link increased its lead over its nearest rival by 5 per cent, and by a massive 107 per cent over the third placed vendor.

Regional director for D-Link Africa, Teddy Liang, said D-Link sales climbed by 38 per cent from $US132.2 million in Q1 last year.

"This growth has been spurred by strong demand for wireless networking, digital home devices and broadband," he said.

D-Link's strong performance includes growth in several product lines, notably Digital Home products, with a staggering 75 per cent growth over the year, wireless networking with 54 per cent growth, and broadband networking. This includes Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) devices, cable modems, wired routers, and NIC cards with 31 per cent growth.

Industry analyst at Synergy Research Group, Aaron Vance, said: "The global market is experiencing record growth and D-Link has helped to open the market to new users with its aggressive pricing and the stratification of its broadband, LAN and WLAN product lines."
