HP Extends Business Intelligence Offerings; Helps Customers Achieve Better Business Outcomes

Sydney, Australia, Apr. 26, 2007 – Building upon a series of strategic moves to capture business intelligence (BI) market leadership, HP today unveiled a next-generation data warehouse platform and new BI services designed to help customers lower cost, reduce risk and accelerate growth by making more informed business decisions.

Already No. 1 in BI server deployments worldwide according to IDC, HP extends its BI leadership by delivering a new approach to enterprise data warehousing with the introduction of the HP Neoview platform.1 Unlike legacy enterprise data warehouses, Neoview is designed to meet the needs of a 24x7 environment where decision making and action taking are seamlessly integrated into business operations at multiple levels within the organisation.

The platform is specifically architected for decision support with the robust performance, continuous availability and massive scalability necessary for customers to capitalise on their information. Neoview leverages industry-standard components and re-deployable hardware. This allows customers to easily implement it into their environments and therefore capitalise on existing IT investments, without costly workforce re-training and software re-licensing fees.

“Faced with exploding volumes of data, companies are struggling to manage and use information more effectively to gain meaningful business insights that will give them a competitive advantage,” said Richard Winter, president, Winter Corporation, a consulting firm with expertise in database scalability. “As a result, each company is looking for a business intelligence architecture that provides the best combination of scalability, availability and cost.”

The Neoview platform provides an unprecedented set of functionality to meet next-generation enterprise data warehousing needs with features and benefits that include:

· Faster time to benefit. Neoview is pre-configured and tested before delivery, enabling fast integration into existing environments and the ability to load terabytes of data much faster.

· Better overall value as a result of Neoview leveraging industry standard components.

· Unparalleled performance in handling complex queries, mixed workloads and high concurrency.

· Enables 24/7 availability and risk mitigation with no offline windows.

· Scalability to hundreds of terabytes, making it an ideal platform for data mart consolidation.

· Reduced administrative time and costs through HP remote management and monitoring capabilities.

“Our approach to business intelligence is to leverage the best of HP – delivering an innovative set of products and services coupled with robust partner relationships -- to bring BI capabilities and functionality to a broader set of users across the enterprise,” said Ben Barnes, vice president and general manager, Business Intelligence Group, HP Software. “Neoview provides customers with a more reliable, scalable and accessible choice for capitalising on information and enabling better business decisions.”

HP also unveiled a foundational set of BI services rooted in implementation best practices for solving some of the industry’s most complex information challenges. HP’s BI services practitioners possess a blend of deep technical, business and industry expertise across a variety of market segments. In addition, these practitioners hold significant solution experience in risk and compliance, business performance management, and leveraging business intelligence for finance, marketing, sales, supply chain operations and IT.

Acquired from Knightsbridge Solutions, HP’s new BI services enable organisations to reap rewards such as improved decision-making, regulatory compliance and competitive advantage:

· Strategy & Planning: helps business and IT leaders develop a vision and master plan – tailored for any stage of BI maturity – to ensure support from stakeholders, effectively manage resources, and move organisations from localised to enterprise-wide projects while delivering incremental value.

· Information Quality: seeks the root cause of data quality problems and quickly analyses the interdependence of complex data management systems.

· Information Integration: provides the framework to integrate data from disparate sources such as legacy applications, operational systems, data warehouses/data marts, external sources and web applications.

· Information Delivery: enables improved decision-making by ensuring that target users can access the data needed to make better business decisions, faster.

HP BI Delivers Value for Customers

Customers in diverse markets such as retail, banking, insurance, health and life sciences, communications and energy have realised significant business outcomes since turning to HP for BI solutions. HP has helped them consolidate data warehouses from departmental silos, obtain better returns on direct marketing and establish a single version of the truth for business information.

HP’s Partner Ecosystem Ensures Optimised Solutions

HP is building on its strong existing relationships with the major BI software vendors to provide its customers with the most robust and optimised data warehousing offering on the market: HP Neoview. HP already has the #1 market share with many of the leading players and is now teaming with them to optimise Neoview. These include: Ab Initio, Business Objects, Cognos, Informatica, MicroStrategy, Hyperion (Oracle) and SAS. Together with these partners, HP will provide customers with additional value through joint solutions, blended teams with specialised expertise in BI, pre-tested/tuned configurations and tight integration with HP technology.

Today’s announcements build upon HP’s recent moves in this space, affirming the strategic value HP sees in delivering innovative solutions to the BI and data warehousing markets. In December 2006, HP acquired Knightsbridge Solutions, a large IT professional services firm focused exclusively on business intelligence. In January 2007, HP formed a business unit within HP Software to focus exclusively on Business Intelligence. HP Business Intelligence Group is part of a larger HP effort within Business Information Optimisation to aggregate HP’s capabilities across infrastructure, software and services to help customers make better decisions and gain better control of their business, improving their business performance.
