Sydney-based managed security service provider, earthwave, is engaged in a wide-ranging security contract with NSW Parliament.
The deal was struck last March, but has only just been made public. The financial aspects remain commercial-in-confidence.
In total, 12 security practices at the NSW Parliament building and over 70 electoral offices are being managed by earthwave. They include managed firewall, content delivery, network and host intrusion and detection, incident response, URL and Web filtering, and real-time threat analysis.
"They [NSW Parliament] wanted someone just to take the security headache away from them," earthwave managing director, Carlo Minassian, said.
earthwave has been operating since late 2000. It was started by Minassian, an ex-IBM employee, and several other ex-IBM and Cisco security specialists. Since then, the company has landed significant security contracts with the major banks and large government departments.
The company has data centres in Sydney and Canberra. Minassian said earthwave was heavily reliant on partners to help deliver its services and to scale its business. As an example, he said the NSW contract was offered to it through partner contact.
Its partners include integrators, carriers and small security practices. All are divided into three categories: Associate, Premier and Elite. One of its larger Elite channel partners is Dimension Data.
earthwave also has a tier 2 distribution model through LAN Systems, which it last year. Typically, customers that came through this avenue were smaller sized businesses, Minassian said.
