Multimedia hardware and software distributor, New Magic, has inked an exclusive deal with video card and converter vendor, Blackmagic Design. It is replacing its previous wholesaler, Intraware.
New Magic national sales and marketing manager, Darrell Vanderwolf, said Blackmagic was after a distributor that could penetrate a wider market place. "Their previous distributor was primarily selling into the Mac market. New Magic not only has reach into that [area] but also the PC and niche dealers," he said.
The distributor will supply the whole Blackmagic range including its DeckLink, Intensity and Multibridge products. These come in two versions - Extreme and Pro. Multibridge offers bio-directional capture and playback that can switch between High Definition and Standard Definition modes.
Vanderwolf said the vendor complemented its existing range, which also includes Newtek, Matrox and Sony Creative Software products. He wanted to add Apple and video specialist dealers to its books to take on the range.
"We are going to actively pursue other channels and dealers that are not selling this type of product right now, but they are selling into this professional space," he said.
Blackmagic worldwide international business development manager, Jeromy Young, said it traditionally played in the Serial Digital Interface (SDI) market, where Intraware had significant strength. The recent launch of new HDMI products found it looking to build a better presence in the professional market. He claimed the break from Intraware was amicable.
"New Magic has a lot more technical strength and promotional power. We were looking for someone who could promote into that market space a bit better than Intraware," he said. "Intraware would have been able to do it, but it would take them time to gain contacts. I wanted to move now.
"The wedding videographer, corporate advertising and people who buy video products for their own use, is an all together different entity. That's why we have gone with New Magic."
