Optimism, Focus on Strategic Planning Prevalent Among METAmorphosis Attendees

META Group Conference Yields Highest Attendance in METAmorphosis History

SYDNEY, Australia (May 27, 2004) - If the attitude among the attendees at METAmorphosis Chicago 2004 could serve as a crystal ball for the future of the information technology (IT) industry, things are looking up. In addition to having the largest number of attendees since the conference was first hosted by META Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: METG) in 1989, META Group has noted a positive turn in the mindsets of the business leaders who attended.

“While the economy still faces some uncertainty, the activity we’re seeing among leading IT organizations in the first half of this year indicates the winds have started to change,” said Fred Amoroso, president and CEO of META Group. “Not only has attendance grown significantly at this year’s METAmorphosis conferences, but the conversations IT business leaders are having with our advisors indicate a movement toward becoming more adaptive and increasing value across the organization.”

Closely mapping IT initiatives with business processes was one of the prevalent topics discussed among attendees at the company’s 2004 METAmorphosis finale in Chicago this week. Today’s IT organizations recognize the need to complement strategic plans with new modeling techniques. They are implementing metrics and benchmarks and seeking new ways to drive processes across the entire organization to meet objectives.

Compliance, business process outsourcing, and the future of service-oriented architecture and Web services also were popular topics.
“IT organizations have come a long way over the past few years. They’ve become leaner, more flexible, and more cognizant of their need to prove their effectiveness,” said Amoroso. “META Group is excited to work closely with these organizations as they plan for the next evolution of IT — becoming an adaptive organization positioned to meet the constantly changing demands of an increasingly global economy.”

META Group will kick off its next global METAmorphosis conference series at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco, March 1, 2005.
