Queensland-based distributor, Power Quality Consultants (PQC), has expanding into NSW via its relationship with its major vendor, Emerson Network Power.
The power protection supplier will initially work out of Emerson's NSW office, but hopes to branch out into its own premises with its own staff by the end of the year.
PQC managing director, Trevor Bird, said it had experienced increasing interstate demand. The NSW branch of the business will deal with electrical wholesalers and contractors, industrial automation and process control suppliers, and security and communications suppliers.
He claimed it had the potential to be as large as the Queensland business.
"We probably have about 500 resellers on our books in Queensland. Of those we'd work regularly 100 and perhaps 20 are really key guys. I can see us gathering the same sort of numbers in NSW," Bird said.
Typically, PQC works as a consultant alongside its resellers during customer installations.
"The way we want to build the NSW office is one deal at a time, not build it up with a flashy office and cars and people from the start," Bird said. "I'll be down from Queensland two weeks out of every month to oversee it."
PCQ was named Emerson Network Power Distributor of the Year in 2005 and 2006.
