Swann Communications, has handed responsibility for its product distribution to industry heavyweight Ingram Micro. It had previously undertaken the task itself from a warehouse in Melbourne.
The local security hardware vendor has become known in recent years for monitoring solutions and IT peripherals that have a do-it-yourself slant for SMBs. It services about 70 local retailers with a combined total of more than 20,000 outlets.
"We still have our own warehouse, but it couldn't keep up with distribution," Swann sales manager, Stuart Burtenshaw, said. "Switching over to Ingram frees us up to do what we're best at like marketing and making do it yourself products."
Burtenshaw said wireless cameras accessible via the Web and digital video recorders were proving hot sellers.
"A lot of our existing retailers already work with Ingram, which helps us," he said. "The relationship will also get us in front of SMB resellers and the smaller end of the market where we haven't been as active."
In a prepared statement, Ingram Micro said the emergence of CCTV security as a retail category meant the relationship with Swann was a "fantastic opportunity" to represent a specialist vendor.
