Motherboard maker, Gigabyte, has tapped Altech Computers on the shoulder to be its third Australian distributor.
Gigabyte Asia sales division deputy manager, Tim Handley, said while the vendor was happy with its existing distributors, Synnex and Rectron, it still needed a third.
"With our existing distributors, we've been reaching about 80 per cent of the market," he said. "By bringing on Altech, we'll be able to reach the gamers and enthusiasts that it's so good at reaching."
Altech national marketing manager, Viktoria Kulikova, said the distribution deal would not conflict with its other existing motherboard vendors, MSI and Azrock.
"We always try and align our products ranges and there's no real clash with MSI and Azrock," she said. "Of course, it's difficult to find full harmony, but in terms of positioning, Gigabyte's at the high end while Azrock, for example, is at the low end, but still very good value for money."
Kulikova said Gigabyte's marketing plans, which included targeting LAN parties, were extremely complementary to the kinds of buyers that Altech tried to attract.
"When we spoke to Altech, it was clear they wanted to be a one-stop-shop at the high end," Handley said. "It already has so many good high-end components, adding our motherboards to the mix makes a lot of sense."
