NetApp has extended its data centre portfolio with two new mid-range platforms.

The FAS3040 and V3040 are designed specifically for data-intensive businesses and technical applications and are aimed at making enterprise data centre management easier. An update to the FAS3000 series storage systems, NetApp claims they offer twice the performance as well as an extra 50 per cent storage scalability than the FAS3020 model.

The enhanced features and flexibility, when combined with Data ONTAP 7G, would also open up more market opportunities with customers that were managing a growing storage environment, the vendor said.

The systems offer robust storage for design, automation, and other data-intensive requirements.

They are based on 64-bit architecture, with up to 252 disk drives, 126TB capacity and high bandwidth I/O. Both support file services, FC SAN, IP SAN or iSCSI, and multiple network configurations and offer scalability to higher-performance systems with seamless upgrades. The vendor has also extended its V-Series supported storage systems to include the EMC Clariion storage solutions.

NetApp vice-president of solutions marketing, Patrick Rogers, said the models addressed customer demands for mid-range solutions that delivered sound performance and increased data and application availability that were easy to manage and affordable.
