ASG deal showcases its People smarts

Multimillion dollar contract with WA's DET will utilise its PeopleSoft and Oracle skills

ASG Group has landed a multimillion dollar applications support contract with the WA Department of Education and Training (DET).

The integrator will be supplying DET with applications, services and support around its PeopleSoft and Oracle environments. It replaces incumbent provider, Unisys.

ASG general manager, Murray Rosa, said the strategic deal would help to enhance its PeopleSoft capability.

"DET is the largest employer in the state. This demonstrates the confidence the WA government has in ASG's ability to provide application and services support to their business," he said. "It is aligned to and supports what we have done in WA, particularly with the Office of Shared Services contract, which we secured a few months ago.

"It is a very mission critical environment. They were after a low-risk service offering that gives them the assurance that their payroll will continue to run without problems," he said.

The contract will be in place till 2008. Rosa said he had taken on an extra six application services staff to help fulfill the deal.

"Education runs parallel with what we are doing within the shared services environment but it is also a market that we want to build and develop more capability in terms of providing application services and support services," he said. "We are keen to leverage the success we are having in WA on the east coast where we are also focused on the same opportunities."

ASG plans to hire about 60 staff between now and December. Rosa said it would be looking for staff with skills in applications, services and managed services.
