Microsoft is creating a free online marketplace to help its channel win government business.
The Public Sector Partner Marketplace will be formally launched at Tech Ed Europe on June 29 and will initially cover the European market. It is currently being evaluated for Australia and depending on how it works in Europe, could arrive here before October, Microsoft Australia’s public services director, Kevin Ackhurst, said.
The online marketplace will detail relevant information on public sector IT systems, plus systems and services from VARs, systems integrators, ISVs, trainers and consultants.
Microsoft has some direct staff working with the Australian public sector but Ackhurst claimed all transactions go through its channel.
The software giant claimed the Marketplace initiative would give these partners a faster and more comprehensive source of information on public sector opportunities.
Its channel customers would also be able to win extra revenue by marketing their products and services on the website and identify opportunities to work with complimentary businesses.
The marketplace forms just part of a raft of channel activities Microsoft Australia is organising for the coming financial year, starting July 1.
The software giant plans to continue its shift towards taking a solutions-based approach, by announcing what it calls its solutions portfolio.
This would involve working with specific partners to identify the solutions that were most relevant to the government, such as the education sector, and helping the channel partners deliver them, Ackhurst said.
