PC components distributor, Achieva Technology, has set up a division focused on security products. The announcement comes as it signs a new distribution agreement with Internet appliance vendor, Qnap. Managing director, John Lu, said it had launched Achieva Surveillance because it saw opportunities in the security space.
"Seagate recently appointed us to distribute their core security hard disk, the ST35," he said. He claimed Achieva was currently the sole local distributor.
"We are working together with Seagate and that is why we set up this task force and team - to put the pieces in place," he said. To help boost its security products stable, Achieva has signed a deal with Taiwan-based Qnap. Its products are also distributed locally by FortuneTec.
"Qnap's enclosure [product] comes with the latest software so it can do things like auto backup and synchronise as well as security encryption," Lu said. "We will look at bundling products together to provide a total solution. Qnap has another innovative product in its range called QBack, which is an automatic file backup device that we may bundle with cameras."
Other security vendors who have recently come on-board with Achieva include video surveillance producer, American Dynamics, sensor technology provider, DigiSensory, and security camera maker, IFCS.
Lu said he had assembled a team of eight staff to run the security division. This incorporates business development managers in NSW, Queensland, Victoria and WA, along with engineers and a product team. Target markets range from the public transport and law enforcement verticals to retail giants such as Myer Group. "At this moment we are just interested in educating the market and dealers to start trying the product," Lu said.
